Dean the magician

Dean is a part time magician who is also a toast master, first time I met him was in the studio when he wants some images for his website, he wants something different from most of the magician pictures you see. I come up with something with a bit more style. Using props and more artistic lighting with muted colour tone. The result is a set of image that we both very proud of, not only it was fun to work on something a bit different, I was entertained by his magic trick during the shoot.

I always try something new and a bit different when working on PR commissions, I suggested to him that he should turn his back with a hand full of “Kings” reach around to his back. I though that really ties to the fact that he is a magician and there should be an element of mystery. I put the halo effect on the grey background and med key(towards low key lighting. The result is my best image on the shoot. He is extremely pleased with it as well.

We also played with shallow depth of focus as well, which is another way to add mystery. I suggested using colour pop, which just the card in colour. Usually I would say it is a bit old fashioned but intros instance, it really works. It does take a bit time to get the position of the card in the right place, one of those photos that looks easy but really not.
